Part II takes you through the Journey…

Regina’s Chapter 1

The Fourth of July . . . what a magical day. I’m sitting here in Martha’s Vineyard, in my beautiful sundress, watching the sunset. People are closing out the day with fireworks, dancing and singing in the streets as they celebrate Independence Day; but for me, it’s more than just a holiday. It’s my birthday and anniversary. I can’t wait to see what Robert has for me. He always gives me such good presents. My husband puts so much thought into them. I thank God for him and my children everyday—they don’t realize how they saved my life. These last four years have been terrific. Nicolas and Angela will be eight years old and Robert Jr., RJ, will be five. I can’t believe time has gone by so fast. Well I guess…

Robert ran over to where Kennedy sat on the beach and jokingly snatched the journal out of her hand. “Why are you sitting out here by yourself on your birthday and our anniversary? I went to our room to get your birthday present and you’d disappeared.” Robert dropped the journal on the sand and pulled Kennedy up off the rock.

“Robert, don’t drop my book.” As she bent down to pick up the journal, Robert grabbed Kennedy and kissed her.

“C’mon baby, this is our night, let’s try to enjoy it. Look at what I have for your birthday.” Kennedy smiled excitedly, looking around Robert to see what he had for her. Robert moved away slowly and then pulled a box out of his back pocket. He gently sat Kennedy down onto the rock, and knelt down on both knees in front of her.“You know how much I love and adore you,” Robert said sincerely. Kennedy smiled as she listened, anticipating her gift.

“Yes, I know how much you love me. Now, may I have my present?” Kennedy playfully tried to wrestle her gift out of Robert’s hand.

“Wait now, let me finish,” he laughed. “You know I’ve watched you get up every morning and take our helicopter over to your boat—sometimes, at midday, when you don’t know that I’m watching. I notice how intently you stare at your boat; obviously, it’s a very special place for you.” Robert paused and looked deeply into Kennedy’s eyes. “I know I’ve never asked you what the boat means to you or even how you pronounce its name—I call it ‘Armani’ or something like that. Anyway, I thought you might enjoy having it to wear around your neck.” Robert opened the box. Stunned by what was inside, Kennedy’s mouth dropped open in disbelief. At last, she managed a smile.

“Oh my God, this is amazing!” Kennedy placed her hand over her mouth. She knew Robert had no idea what the yacht meant to her or how she had gotten it. Robert looked on as Kennedy’s shaking hands slowly removed the necklace from the box. “This is so beautiful,” Kennedy said as she admired the necklace.

“You don’t like it.” Robert tried to take the necklace from her.

“No! Don’t you dare take it!” Kennedy stared at the necklace for a moment, and then tightly clutched it in her hand. Finally, speaking barely above a whisper, she said, “I love it. I honestly love it.” Robert felt a bit relieved; convinced he had made the right choice. Again, he lifted Kennedy off the rock, pulled her towards him, and caressed her face with his hand.

“You know, trying to buy the right gift for you can sometimes make a brother crazy. You’re the woman who has everything—to make the right decision is…is…”

“Don’t even think about it. I told you, I love it.” Kennedy stared lovingly into Robert’s eyes. “And since I love it so much, maybe you can take me back to the hotel so I can show you just how much I love it.” Kennedy kissed Robert passionately. As they started walking hand in hand back toward the hotel, Kennedy realized she had left her journal beside the rock. She quickly turned around and ran to get it.

“Hey! Where are you going?” Robert asked.

“I left my journal, I’ll be right back.” As she got closer to the rock, Kennedy’s eyes fastened on the couple making out on the beach. The women suddenly felt as though they were being watched. They stopped kissing and looked up at Kennedy.“Um, I’m sorry,” Kennedy hesitated. “Excuse me for interrupting; but I left my journal over here, and I...uh...just came back to get it.” She fumbled as she picked the journal up off the sand.

“Oh, no problem.” one of the ladies said, “We’re just celebrating the fourth.”

Kennedy managed to work up a smile then she ran off. The thought of seeing two women kiss opened the floodgates of Kennedy’s past. Her body shook fervently, as the images of her and Angel’s past flashed through her mind. She ran quickly in the direction of the hotel. Calm down girl, she thought to herself. The man can’t see you like this... Kennedy ran straight into Robert’s arms, almost out of breath.

“Why are you breathing so hard?”

“I had to get my journal. I didn’t want anybody to read it.”

“You look distressed, is everything okay?” Robert asked, as they walked into the hotel.

“Oh, it’s nothing…nothing…I just…I was thinking about how beautiful my necklace is. I can’t believe you put the Armanée on a necklace spelled out in diamonds. It’s the most beautiful piece of jewelry I have.”

“Armanée?” repeated Robert with confusion. “I didn’t know you pronounced it that way. How did you come up with that?” They stepped off the elevator into their penthouse suite.

“It’s a long story Robert, let’s talk about it tomorrow. Right now, I want to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary.” Kennedy wrapped her arms around Robert’s waist and kissed him down his neck. “Don’t you want to make love to me?” she asked. Robert tried to resist. He really did want to talk... His body quivered as Kennedy gently kissed his chest—the warmth of her breath, the soft caress of her lips against his skin—caused every nerve ending to scream, to cry out for her touch...Robert laid Kennedy upon the bed and made love to her.

It was one o’clock in the morning. Kennedy gently removed herself from Robert’s embrace. She put on her robe and stepped out onto the terrace. Solemnly, she gazed out onto the water, white waves rolling in, a peaceful moment, fleeting...

Her mind constantly drifted back to where she saw the two women kissing. Kennedy leaned against the railing and watched the people that were still out on the beach having fun. She suddenly noticed the two women running down the beach laughing and playing. They stopped in front of the hotel, not caring that someone might see them. Then they embraced and their lips touched. Kennedy could not take her eyes off them as their kiss became more passionate and more intense.

Kennedy listened as the women confessed their love for one another. She tightly grabbed the railing as a portion of her past flashed through her mind. Kennedy envisioned a moment when she thought life was beautiful—a moment when she thought Angel was the only one for her—the day they married on the Armanée. “Oh my,” Kennedy whispered to herself. “What am I doing? Why am I thinking of this? I must be going insane. I’m not in love with her.” Kennedy felt the rapid pace of her heart beating. She put her hand on her chest and her mind drifted back again to a night of undying passion, a night when a forbidden love seemed genuine and true, the night she first made love to Angel.

“Darn it! What is going on with me? I haven’t had desires like this in years.” Kennedy ran her hands through her hair. “This can’t be… I can’t go back …I love my hus …” The sound of the terrace door creaking startled her. Kennedy quickly turned around. “You scared me, Robert. What are you doing up?” Kennedy worked to get her composure and eventually pulled out a smile.

“I was reaching for you and you weren’t there,” Robert said.

“I couldn’t sleep, so I came outside to get some air.” Robert wrapped his arms around Kennedy from behind and began kissing her down her neck.

“You know, there are ways I can put you back to sleep.” Robert caressed Kennedy’s neck with his hand. She was still wearing the necklace. “This necklace fits you so perfectly. I’m glad you like it.”

“I do, Robert.” Kennedy released herself from Robert’s grasp and turned around to face him. “I think I’m getting tired now, let’s go back to bed.” They walked back into the room and Kennedy shut the terrace door behind them.

“Really, Kendy, I’m wide awake now. I’m not ready to go to sleep yet.”

“Well, I am.” Kennedy pulled back the covers and sat on the edge of the bed.

“Stay up with me for a little while, baby, and talk to me.”

“What’s to talk about at one-thirty in the morning?”

“For starters, you can tell me about the boat and how you came up with the name—um, what did you call it—the Armanée?”

“I told you, I’ll tell you in the morning. I don’t want to talk about it right now.” Kennedy lifted the covers and got back into bed. Robert walked around to her side of the bed and pulled up a chair.

“C’mon baby, tell me.”

“I said no, Robert.” Kennedy pulled the covers over her head.

Robert quickly pulled the covers back. “Why is it so hard for you to talk about? It’s just a name, or is there something else you’re not telling me?”

It was painfully obvious to Kennedy that she was not going to get any sleep until she told him. She sat up in the bed and looked at Robert intently. Then, with a half smile she replied, “Okay, Robert, I’m going to tell you. Now, if you get an attitude, or even look like you’re going to get one, then the story is over.”

“Just tell me, honey.”

“I’m serious honey, no attitude.”

“All right, tell me, please.” Robert became more anxious by the minute. Kennedy slowly ran her hands down her face. She knew in her heart that Robert was going to go ballistic. Kennedy paused for a moment; then she got out of bed and walked to the entertainment armoire.

“First of all, it’s not a boat, it’s a yacht. Angel bought it for me.”

“Angel bought you that yacht? Wow, so—where did the name come from?”

“I’m getting to that. Angel had always dreamed of buying me something so big and so beautiful that I would treasure it forever, so one day she came home to Kengel’s and surprised me with it. It was the same day that Michael, her ex-husband, escaped from jail and tried to rape me.” Kennedy thought if she used the attempted rape, it would make Robert feel a little more sympathetic. As she continued her story, she noticed that his expression didn’t change.

“I’m sorry about that Kendy,” Robert finally responded. “I wish I had been there for you. I know he hurt you; but he’s in jail now, serving his time—you still haven’t told me about the name, though.” Kennedy began fiddling with her hands, knowing that her plan didn’t work, so she braced herself and spoke.

“You know how I like naming things after me or the people I love; like the Neanbre Homeless Hotel, Brooks and Brooks Advertising Agency, Kengel’s Estates, even the children? Well, Angel thought it would be a good idea to keep up my tradition. She named the yacht after her and me.” Robert looked puzzled. He got out of the chair and moved closer to Kennedy.

“I don’t get it. Her name is Angela Renée and you are Kennedy Arman Brooks-O’Neal.”

“Her name is Angela Renée Lord. She took my middle name and her middle name and put them together. That’s how she got the name Armanée.” Robert worked to restrain his anger. Clearly, he had purchased the wrong gift.

“So, tell me this?” asked Robert. “While you were getting up every morning at five, taking our helicopter over to your yacht and staying over there for two hours; were you over there thinking about her? What about every other Saturday, when you would spend the whole day on that boat?”

“I knew you were going to get like this, Robert. You promised me you would not get an attitude.”

“Attitude!” Robert shouted. “Attitude is not the word, Kendy! I set out to buy you the perfect gift. And now I find that all it does is serve as a reminder of your past!” Robert thought for a moment. “Now it all makes sense.”

“What all makes sense?” Kennedy asked angrily as she walked back to the bed.

“It makes sense that you would spend every morning and every other Saturday on that boat. You are over there thinking about her. You’re still in love with her.”

“See Robert, that’s why I didn’t want to go down this road with you. Now look at where we’ve ended up.” Kennedy calmed herself down and walked back over to Robert. She put her hand on his shoulder. “It’s my birthday and our anniversary; but here you are, destroying our day with your stupid jealousy. I am not in love with her—that was years ago. How could you bring that up again?” Robert gazed into Kennedy’s eyes.

“Be honest with me Kendy; are you trying to tell me that you haven’t thought about her once in the last four years?” Kennedy was more than a little apprehensive about answering Robert, especially after just experiencing such vivid memories of her past. Her eyes flickered. She moved back and turned away from him.

“No, I haven’t, Robert.” Kennedy was lying. She knew that if Robert kept pushing her on this, the truth would eventually come out and she would have hell to pay.

“I find that kind of hard to believe, Kendy.” Kennedy quickly turned around and glared at Robert, her eyes piercing, as though she was looking through his soul. Before she knew it, Kennedy was yelling at the top of her lungs. She fired back at Robert without remorse.

“Just shut up Robert! You know, I truly believe that you don’t want this marriage to work! You look for anything to tear this marriage down! I told you that I did not want to talk about this; but no, you had to keep on fishing for something, anything to destroy us! I told you! I do not love her! I told you! I do not think about her! That’s just not enough for you, is it! You like being miserable! You like being unhappy! You know Robert, maybe, just maybe, instead of questioning me you should question where you stand in this relationship! And, while you’re at it, maybe you should question your relationship with God!” Kennedy paused and looked at Robert with disgust. “No, let me rephrase that. Maybe you should stop dating him on any given Sunday and ask him to move in with you every day! God blesses a man that finds a wife, but maybe you’re not appreciative of the wife He’s given you!”

Kennedy pushed Robert out of the way and stormed into the bathroom. As Robert ran behind her, she slammed the door in his face and quickly locked it. Robert banged rapidly on the door.

“Kendy, open the door!” He banged again. “Kendy, please open the door!” Kennedy sat on the Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom and cried. Robert’s voice softened as he spoke again. “Please Kendy, let me in, I’m sorry.”

“As well you should be! I cannot believe you. How could you mess up my birthday like this?”

“I wasn’t trying to, I was jealous. I know—that’s no excuse for my behavior.” Kennedy stood up and walked to the door. She touched the doorknob as though she were going to let him in, but changed her mind. Instead, she spoke calmly through the door.

“Robert, it saddens me to know that you feel the way that you do. I mean—how many times have I denied you since we have been married? If there wasn’t a thing called a period, you would sleep with me every day.” Robert sat down at the door and listened as his wife poured the truth from her lips. “And what about the leer jet I bought? I only bought it so that I could hurry home to you so you would never feel neglected. Every time you call me, no matter where I am in the country or abroad, I rush right home to be with you. Yet, even with all that, you still think that I’m in love with Angel?” Robert was speechless. He dropped his head and stared at the floor. “I’m not in love with her, Robert, but I will tell you this,” Kennedy continued. “I’m not sorry I fell in love with her, nor am I sorry I love her children. I don’t regret going through the experience. If I hadn’t gone down that path, it would not have brought me closer to God, or to you. So you should see it as a good thing.” Tears fell slowly down Kennedy’s face.

“Why haven’t you asked me to come with you?”

“I didn’t think I should have to ask you. I thought if you wanted to come with me, you would.” Kennedy opened the door and saw Robert sitting on the floor. She stepped out of the bathroom and sat down next to him.

“You know, I’ve been with you all these years and I’ve never set foot on your yacht. I didn’t think I belonged there because it was your special place. I was jealous—crazy—I can’t believe I was jealous of a yacht.”

“I’ve seen worse, Robert. You’d be surprised at what people in this world are jealous of.”

“Yeah, I guess; but look at what I did on your birthday and our anniversary. I am so sorry, I really am.”

“I’m sorry too. I said some nasty things, as well.” Kennedy laid her head on Robert’s shoulder. He kissed the top of her head. “Will you please put me back to sleep?” Kennedy asked seductively. She looked into Robert’s eyes and gently touched his mouth with her hand. “I need to be with you right now.” Robert kissed Kennedy deeply and made love to her again.

Regina’s chapter 2

“You will take good care of her, won’t you Mrs. O’Neal?” Kennedy looked into Maggie’s eyes.

“Yes,” she answered softly. “I promise I’ll take very good care of her.” The housekeepers left and Kennedy slowly walked to the room. She stood outside the room for a moment and watched Angel sleep. Then Kennedy placed her purse on the chair, grabbed her laptop, and sat off in the distance to do some work. As time passed, Kennedy glanced periodically to see if Angel had awakened. She looked at her watch and noticed that Angel had been asleep for three hours. She figured that she probably had at least another hour to go, and decided to get up to get some coffee. As Kennedy went to the door she heard Angel’s voice, and for a moment, her body trembled.

“So you are my kidnapper?” Kennedy gained her composure and turned around.

 “I see you’ve awakened.”

“I see you’ve awakened—is that all you have to say?” Angel sat up in the bed. “You kidnap me and all you can say is you’ve awakened?” Kennedy became bold and walked over to the bed. “You had me scared to death!” Angel yelled. “I’m sitting here, counting the moments, waiting to see who was going to kill me! And all you have to say is you’ve awakened!”

“I had to do this Angel,” Kennedy said calmly.

 “Why Kendy?”

“Because we have some unfinished business to take care of.”

“What unfinished business!” Angel calmed down. “What do you want so badly that you thought it was necessary to kidnap me?”

“I want to know why you stole the money, Angel. I want to know why you didn’t come and help me with the press when they were saying that you had in vitro fertilization, using my eggs. I need to know the truth Angel!” Kennedy realized that she was yelling.

“Oh I see, I’m a thief now!” Angel got out of bed wearing only her teddy. Kennedy watched for a moment as Angel moved toward her, then turned her head.

“Angel, will you put on your robe please.”

“Put on my robe?” Angel snickered. “It’s not like you haven’t seen me before. I can remember a time when you didn’t like to see me in anything.”

“Angel, please!” Kennedy yelled. Angel could tell that her appearance bothered Kennedy, so she slipped on her robe.

“Okay, I have my robe on.” Kennedy stepped away from Angel and spoke very calmly.

“Angel, I know that you deposited the check from Namra Records into your personal checking account. I want to know why?  You know you don’t have to steal. If you needed something, anything, you know I would help you out.”

“Steal?” Angel said with a sarcasm. “So you do think I’m a thief.” Angel walked over to where Kennedy stood, looked her in the eyes and shouted, “Well I guess that makes you a thief too! You stole my heart for thirteen years and I don’t remember you ever returning it! So, when are you going to give it back, Kendy?” Kennedy carefully moved Angel away from her.

“Angel that was a long time ago, let’s not change the subject. Just tell me what’s going on and I will help you, I promise.” Angel suddenly began to change. Her body trembled and sweat started to pour from her forehead. She started pacing the floor, back and forth, in a state of panic. Kennedy fearfully watched Angel’s sudden mood swing. She knew that Angel was experiencing the early stages of her withdrawal. Angel suddenly ran up to Kennedy and tried to hit her, but Kennedy caught her hands.

“I hate you Kennedy!” she yelled. “Why are you constantly in my head! Why do you hurt me so bad!” Angel held on to Kennedy and brought both of them to the floor. Angel’s tears were uncontrollable. Kennedy held onto her tightly as they both lay on the floor crying.

“It’s going to be all right, Angel. I’m right here,” Kennedy said as she rocked Angel in her arms. Then suddenly Angel began to speak.

“I’m scared Kendy. I’m cold.” Angel’s body was shaking as though it were only ten degrees in the room. Kennedy got up to get her a blanket off the bed.

“Wait right here Angel, I’m going over to the bed to get your blanket.” When Kennedy turned her back Angel rushed to the door. Kennedy ran after her and caught her from behind. Angel began to squirm and fight Kennedy to get out the door. Kennedy held on to Angel tightly. She dragged her to the bed and put the covers on her “C’mon Angel, you have to help me. Stay calm, I’m right here with you. I promise, I’m not going to leave you.” Kennedy started brushing back Angel’s hair with her hands.

“You don’t know what’s wrong with me,” Angel said weakly.

“Yes I do. I’ve known for a while. You’ve been taking painkillers, Angel, and you have to get through this.”

“I’m not sure I can make it, Kendy.”

“You will make it, Angel, I promise you. You will make it.” Kennedy held Angel until she went back to sleep. She knew it would be even worse once she reawakened. Kennedy went into the kitchen and gathered bottles of water, lots of fruit, and candy. She came back into the room and sat next to Angel while she slept.

Kennedy kept a close eye on Angel as she changed into some comfortable clothes. She anticipated that the next two days would be horrible. Three o’clock the next morning, Angel awakened in a pool of sweat and noticed Kennedy nodding in her chair. She nervously tried to put on some clothes to get out of the house. When Angel got to the door, it was locked. She panicked and started banging frantically on the door.

“I’ve got to get out of here! Let me out of here!” Kennedy heard her and ran to get her away from the door.

“Listen Angel, I know it’s hard but you have to get through this! You and I are locked in here until you are done. I brought some bottled water. Here, drink this; it will calm you down for a while.” Angel took the bottle of water and drank it. She sat back on the bed and Kennedy put the covers on her. “It’s going to be a while Angel, so why don’t you talk to me.”

 “Talk to you about what?”

“Anything, I’ll listen.” Angel seemed to get hot; she took the blankets off and downed some more of the water. “Tell me about some of your aunts and uncles,” Kennedy continued, “you never speak about them.”

“There’s nothing to tell. They hated me when they found out I was gay.” Angel went on and on talking about anything and everything until ten o’clock in the morning. Kennedy was exhausted, working to keep Angel calm, and not getting any sleep herself. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Angel jumped out of the bed. Shaking and trembling, she ran back to the door. Angel banged even harder than before and started screaming as she pleaded for her release. “Let me out Kendy! Please!” Angel cried. Kennedy ran back over to her and grabbed her, and again they fell to the floor. She turned Angel around and looked into her eyes; eyes that were filled with hurt, fear, and anguish.

“Please, Kendy give me something! I can’t take it anymore! Please, give me something or let me die!” Kennedy grabbed Angel’s hands and held them down against the floor.

“Angel . . . no! I’m not going to let you die, damn it! You have three beautiful children who need you!” Kennedy felt Angel’s pain and she began to cry. “You have a lot to live for, just fight back, Angel! You can do this! Come on baby, you can do this! I know you can.” Kennedy slowly got off of Angel and lifted her from the floor. “Come on baby, walk with me.” Kennedy began walking Angel around the room.

“Why do you care if I live or die, Kendy?”

“Because you really do have a lot to live for. Think of the dreams you’ve always had—now you’re actually living them.”

“Well, all those dreams are gone, Kendy! I’m being blackmailed everyday of my life!” Kennedy abruptly stopped walking Angel and looked her in the face.

 “Who’s blackmailing you, Angel?”

“What the hell do you care Kendy! It has nothing to do with you! You can’t fix it!”

“Yes I can, baby. Just tell me. Tell me, please.” Angel looked caringly at Kennedy and then her stomach began to hurt.

“Oh my, Kendy,” Angel said in pain. “My stomach…” Angel vomited all over Kennedy and herself.

“Darn it Angel!” Kennedy pulled them slightly apart. Angel vomited again. Kennedy took Angel by the hand and led her into the bathroom. She lifted up the toilet seat and Angel finished vomiting into the toilet. Afterwards, she collapsed to the floor in exhaustion. Kennedy sat on the Jacuzzi and stared at Angel sympathetically. She then looked at the vomit on her clothes and reached her hands out to Angel.

 “I can’t Kendy, I’m done,”

“Look, you’re not done. Give me your hand so we can take off your clothes and get you in the shower.” Angel sat there trembling. “Please, Angel give me your hand.” Angel slowly gave Kennedy her hand and Kennedy lifted her up off the floor. Kennedy began unbuttoning her blouse as she watched Angel tremble. She removed Angel’s blouse and teddy and looked tenderly at her body. Then before she could stop it, she was experiencing flashbacks to the first time they’d made love. Kennedy shook her head to remove the thought from her mind. Angel noticed that Kennedy’s hands were shaking. Angel grabbed Kennedy hands and tried to ease the tension between them.

“Look, let me help you,” she said nervously. As Angel took off her shorts and thong, Kennedy walked over to the shower and turned it on. She bashfully looked the other way as Angel entered the shower. Then she sat on the Jacuzzi while Angel took her shower. Finally, Kennedy cleared her throat and tried to talk to Angel without showing any emotion.

“Are you okay in there, Angel?”

“Yeah, I’m trying. It’s just hard to hold the soap in my hand, I’m shaking like a leaf.” Kennedy walked over to the shower to keep a closer eye on Angel. She noticed the bar of soap constantly falling to the floor. Then she heard Angel cry out.

“I can’t do this Kendy! I can’t keep the damn soap in my hand!” Angel began to cry and Kennedy quickly opened the shower door. She saw Angel standing in the middle of the shower trembling. Kennedy slowly looked at Angel’s body from head to toe, remembering how beautiful she was. Instantly her heart started to pound and her face became flushed. The warmth of her desire for Angel cascaded throughout her body and she began to perspire.

Oh my, I’d forgotten how beautiful she is! Kennedy thought to herself. Lord you have to help me please! Please take this desire away from me.” She took the soap and cloth out of Angel’s hands and began to wash her. Kennedy slowly took the cloth over Angel’s shoulders, then her breast, and worked her way down her stomach. She went back up and washed her back and then down her legs. As she started going up Angel’s legs, Kennedy began to pray in her head, Lord please, don’t let me go all the way. If I touch her in this private area, I will not be able to refrain myself. Kennedy eyes began to water as she slowly took the cloth up Angel’s leg. Just then, Angel’s mood changed and she snatched the washcloth out of Kennedy’s hand.

“I think I can do the rest, Kendy, I’m not a baby.” Angel continued to wash herself. Kennedy hurried out of the bathroom. Unable to withstand the weight of her own temptation, she ran to the bedroom, grabbed the doorknob, leaned into the door, and began to cry aloud.

“God I can’t do this! I thought I could handle this, but I can’t!” Kennedy started to weep frantically, but was soon interrupted by the sound of Angel’s voice.
“Kendy!” Kennedy turned and saw Angel standing in the doorway with a towel wrapped around her, the water from her hair slowly falling down her face. She looked so innocent and beautiful to Kennedy. “I’m scared, my body won’t stop shaking. I’m getting hot, then cold―I need you to help me. You promised you would help me, Kendy.”

“I am, Angel.” Kennedy got up and wiped her face. Then she went into Angel’s closet and got her some more underclothes. “Here, put this on.” Angel put on the teddy and got back in bed. “You have to eat something, Angel, eat some of this fruit.”

 “I’m not hungry.”

“I know, but you need something in your stomach. Angel you need your strength.” Angel took a bite out of the apple and then set it down.

“Look Angel, I have to take a shower too. You vomited all over me and I have to clean this carpet, it’s developing a stench. So, what I’m about to do, you are not going to like.” Kennedy went to the bed and grabbed the sheet.
“What are you doing Kendy?” Kendy took the sheet and tied Angel to the bed.

“Kendy, please don’t do this! Please!” Angel yelled. “Why are you treating me like an animal? You do hate me! Let me go, Kendy!” Kennedy finished tying her up with the sheet.

“I don’t hate you Angel. I just want to keep my room the same way it was when you came in here. You will start breaking things, and I am not in the mood to chase and fight with you all over this bedroom. I haven’t slept nor have I eaten. I just don’t have the strength. Now, you stay put, and when I get out of the shower, I will let you go.” Kennedy picked up a banana and went into the closet to put on a robe. When she came out Angel was mumbling.

“You like to see me weak and vulnerable.”

 “What?”

“You heard me. This is how you get your kicks isn’t, Kendy? I wish you’d never come into my life. I hate that I loved you. I hate you Kendy!” Kennedy ignored Angel and walked into the bathroom. Then Angel said something that caught Kennedy off guard.

“I can’t believe I wanted your child. You would probably hate both of us right now.”

“What did you say Angel? What child?” Kennedy came back and sat on the bed. “Tell me Angel, what did you say?”

“I said, I can’t believe I wanted to have your child, and if I’d had a child for you, you would hate both of us right now.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I thought I heard something else.” Kennedy got up and went back into the bathroom. Angel struggled for about ten minutes to free herself, while Kennedy was in the shower. She finally succeeded. Angel looked around the room to find a button or something to open the door. She looked at Kennedy’s pants, went through the pockets, and found her bottle of pills. She pulled it out and was about to open the bottle when Kennedy stopped her.

“Don’t do it Angel,” Kennedy said, as she stood there wrapped in a towel. “You have a day and a half to go. Don’t start all over again, please.”

“I can’t hold on that long Kendy, I’m so miserable.”

“I know.” Kennedy walked toward Angel with her hand out. “Angel give me the pills.” Angel began to shake.

“I need them Kendy. I can’t gain control over myself, this will calm me down.” Angel began to cry as Kennedy walked over to her.

“Please, baby give them to me.” Angel was about to give the bottle to Kennedy, but changed her mind and tried to run. Kennedy caught her and they fell to the floor, Kennedy’s body landing on top of Angel’s. She grabbed Angel’s face and looked into her eyes. Kennedy felt the heat of their bodies touching and the warmth of Angel’s breath against her lips. Kennedy’s heart began to race as she thought to herself, how badly I want to kiss you, right now Angel. My heart is racing, and my body is aching for you. Kennedy stared into Angel’s eyes without making a sound or a movement, as she continued to talk to herself in her mind. Why do you make me feel this way when I’m around you, Angel? Let me just kiss you. As Kennedy began to bring her lips toward Angel’s face, Angel called out to her.

“Kendy take the pills! Take the damn pills, Kendy!” Kendy came back to herself and heard Angel yelling. She focused her mind on the task at hand and took the pills from Angel. Kennedy pulled herself off of Angel and sat up. Angel sat up next to her.
 “What were you thinking Kendy?”

 “Nothing, nothing.”
 “I’m really upsetting you, aren’t I?”

 “Yeah, pretty much.”

“Look, I don’t know how much more I can take, but I’m willing to go through this as long as you stay here with me.”

“That’s good. I know the big one is coming soon, so I want you to talk to me. Drink the water, eat the fruit and candy that I brought for you, and lets get through this day and a half together.”

“I know what I can talk about.”

 “What’s that?”

“I want to tell you how I think Pete stole my money.”

“That’s good. Let me here it.” Angel and Kennedy sat up all night and all the next day talking and fighting away. On the third day, Kennedy was completely exhausted and Angel was still talking. Then Angel said something that got Kennedy’s attention.

“Doctor Clatter. He’s the one who’s been blackmailing me, Kendy.” Kennedy opened her eyes and moved closer to Angel.

“Who is Doctor Clatter, Angel? And why has he been blackmailing you?”

“Remember, I told you I think Pete stole my money?”

 “Yes.”

“Well, he’s not the only one. See I did something that could send me to jail.”

“What did you do Angel?” Kennedy was becoming uneasy, anticipating Angel’s response.

“Kennedy before I tell you this, you have to believe me, I did it out of love. My intentions were never to hurt you.”

“What did you do Angel?” Kennedy followed Angel’s gaze as she looked off into the distance.

“Remember when you thought I was going to kill Michael, and you came to save me?”

 “Yes, I remember.”

“Do you also remember when Michael had the dog attack you and you went into a coma?” Kennedy’s heart began to beat rapidly and she stood up. “Where are you going, Kendy?”

“Nowhere, I’m listening. Go on.” Angel yawned. She started to fall asleep. Kennedy noticed Angel was starting to drift.

“No! Angel!” Kennedy yelled. “Don’t fall asleep, not now!” Angel jumped and continued.

“I had the doctor to…um…to take your eggs.” Angel began to drift away again. Kennedy caught her and woke her up.

“Angel… c’mon! Don’t go to sleep. Wake up! What did you do with my eggs?”

“I told Doctor Clatter, that you wanted to leave… to leave…” Angel drifted away. Kennedy pulled Angel up off the floor and began to walk with her.

“Angel, please tell me what you did! Tell me!” Kennedy was determined to find out about Lil’ Kendy so she changed the question. “Angel, is Lil’ Kendy yours and Pete’s child?” Angel could barely stand but she managed to whisper.

“She’s mine and yours.” Angel passed out. Kennedy’s body trembled as she barely made it to the bed with Angel hanging onto her. Kennedy put Angel into the bed and covered her up. She watched in confusion as Angel slept.
